Once people discover that you can buy kratom in crushed-leaf form, they become really curious on how to consume it. I’ll show you step-by-step on how to make kratom crushed leaf tea. But first, here is why I recommend crushed-leaf tea, and how it’s different from regular kratom powder.

If you are like me and have IBS, IBD (Crohn’s Disease or Colitis), kratom powder and capsules can be rough on the digestive system. This is because of the fiber and capsule contents being broken down and roughly passing through the intestines. Making crushed-leaf kratom tea omits the plant matter, therefore, it is a translucent liquid that is easier for the body to digest, making your tummy and intestines happier. When I first discovered kratom, I only consumed it in tea form, without the plant matter, for over six months. Now, my body can handle both, but I opt for the tea method if I’m experiencing a Crohn’s flare or any stomach discomfort.

When you omit the plant matter, you are receiving less of the beneficial kratom alkaloids. Therefore, you need to measure about twice the amount that you normally do. For example, if I take 2g of regular kratom powder, I would measure out 4g of crushed leaf. You can also do this method with the powder as well! I also find that the effects are not as potent and don’t last as long. Everyone is different, however, so I recommend that you try it and you might be surprised!

Here is how to make it:

Step 1: Measure out your crushed or loose leaf tea with a scale (recommended) or a measuring spoon. Use TWICE the amount that you normally would consume of the powder.

Step 2: add a teaspoon of lemon juice. For this method, it works best with the bottled one because there is no pulp.

Step 3: Add about 4oz of hot water, as hot as the water can get on your faucet/tap. Mix it together really well with a frother or spoon. *You may need more water, up to 8oz depending on how much loose leaf you have.

Step 4: For best results, store in a mason jar in the fridge for 3+ hours or overnight. I’m a little lazy or I forget sometimes, so I just let it sit for 30 minutes to an hour. Once the time has passed, get out your aeropress or a coffee pour-over with a filter. *I recommend for the coffee filter method to use BOTH a reusable filter PLUS the paper filter tucked inside. You might be able to use a cheesecloth for this method too.

Step 5: Shake or stir the mixture up one last time. You should see that the water is no longer clear, but has an amber-tone to it. Pour into your Aeropress or coffee filter. For the Aeropress, you’ll press with the plunger slowly, but firmly. For the coffee filter method, you’ll want to wait about 10-15 minutes for the liquid to pass through.

Now you can enjoy your crushed-leaf kratom tea! Add some honey to cut the bitterness, or mix it into some sweetened iced-tea.
